This Tale is unique in that it is a non-canon 2023 remake of Part 2/3, Lap 49. In 2023–20 years after the release of F-Zero GX, of which F-Zero: Seppuku models itself after—Nintendo released a new F-Zero title known as ‘F-Zero 99,’ primarily based off the original SNES title but with elements of X/GX and other innovations thrown in. F-Zero 99’s new mechanics and massively expanded roster of contestants (99 racers rather than 30) led to a bizarre and yet predictable thought: “What if F-Zero: Seppuku races had been written in the style of F-Zero 99 rather than X/GX?” Henceforth, what I hope to accomplish with this unique Seppuku Tale is offer readers a snapshot of what a rewritten F-Zero: Seppuku Part 2/3 chapter would read like in 2023 rather than 2013, and of course, what the story might have looked like if for whatever reason, I had gone with F-Zero 99’s take on racing.
