My Top 5 Original Villains - #5 Captain Williamson

Description

To avoid confusion, this is a top #5 of my villains.

This deviation will mark the start of a new occasional event, where I will do a "top #" that normally revolves around my stories. To kick this off, I present the top 5 villains I have created from ages 11-18. The list will go from #5 to #1--#1 ultimately being the character I feel is most villainous. My decisions will be based off of a ranking system.
-------------------------
We start the list off with Captain Williamson of Star Spangled Ocean. Do note, Williamson is ranked last in being "villainous." I am not saying that he's a bad villain.

Powers

Motive

Threat

Personality

Total☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ 9/20

Captain Williamson is the captain of the MN Jackson battleship--the pride of the Mississippian Island nation. Though he hasn't made much of an appearance in the story (because of a current lack of chapters,) Williamson could easily be identified as the least villainous villain of all my stories. While his character is well designed (in my opinion,) and his charisma is more than inclining, he simply lacks the villainous traits to label him as a great villain. He's nowhere close to being labeled as a super villain, generally, he is more of an old school villain that would be seen in a cartoon.

Powers

Williamson lacks superpowers, however, he does possess the power of leadership--thus racking him some stars. Leadership is one of the most common traits of all villains, so this single trait only puts him at the border of being absolutely powerless. He himself, however, cannot operate the immense firepower of the MN Jackson without his crew. So ultimately, he is in no way a powerful figure. And because of this, he is just as powerful as his adversary--Elijah, of the WN Madison.

Motive

Even more harming to his reputation as a villain, is the fact that he has no evil motives. Williamson is the leader of the Mississippian fleet, but nothing more. He leads a war that strives to acquire Wisconsin water rumored to possess bountiful treasure on the seabed. If it were Williamson's decision to make, Elijah and his crew would be kept alive to freely enjoy life while Mississippi enjoys the plunder. He is not bloodthirsty, again, a common old school villain trait. Williamson serves his government, and likely serves with the hope of amassing wealth out of the war. But overall, his goal is to win a war he did not start and bring glory to the Mississippi people. Henceforth, his motive is to win a war--but not necessarily in a bloody fashion.

Threat

Lacking powers and training in weaponry, Captain Williamson himself is fairly powerless. It is the ship he commands, the men he leads, and the special force team below deck that brings any threat onto the table. Williamson is undoubtedly equivalent to Elijah in threat level, meaning Williamson merely brings the common war with him. While the MN Jackson is a ship to be feared, so is the WN Madison and ON Columbus. He is dangerous, but only aboard his ship, and only when given a clear advantage over his enemy.

Personality

Finally, Williamson does secure a solid score personality-wise. The man takes after his Confederate heritage by dressing in similar attire to his ancestors who fought in the American Civil Islander War--another great naval conflict. He sports a fairly respected beard and has been known to remain calm under most circumstances. His charisma is legendary, making everything that comes out of his mouth very persuasive. Even enemies of the Sawyer Alliance tend to nod respectfully to the man. He uses his fairly charming personality to his advantage, especially when trying to win over allies. Finally, Williamson is very charitable to his own. He will often accept proposals for crew upgrades, assuming that it doesn't financially damage Mississippi. If personality could win a war, Captain Williamson would be one to be feared.

Total

In total, Williamson nearly makes half of the possible points. But alas, he simply isn't the villain many would expect in a story. He is definitely an old school villain, but from a certain point of view, perhaps not a villain at all. Much like Imperial Japanese Admiral Isoruku Yamamoto, he follows orders to the letter. Under any other circumstance, it's possible that Williamson and Elijah would work together in a war, but alas, he attacks whom he is told to. Some readers could argue that he is merely doing his job, and some may even go as far as saying that the Sawyer Alliance are the actual heroes of the story. Regardless, Williamson is the antagonist of Star Spangled Ocean--a story to continue after the completion of F-Zero: Seppuku. He is not a super villain, but he still brings a challenge to the table. In a world without lasers, tanks, and missiles, Captain Williamson is still a very powerful adversary to be reckoned with.

This guy is a pretty interesting villain. Leadership does require charisma, and Wlliamson has these. Even without being a superhuman, he could cause a lot of problems for any hero (much like Lex Luthor does to Superman).
